The surge of people coming antagonizing Curly but understanding his character, environment, rules placed upon everyone on the ship, the very fact you see a comparison of someone who is a good person trying to maintain order under strict rules that would tear down your very sanity and patience vs a person who thought they could do what he was doing just cause he saw him doing it without complaining or making a fuss. There are so many people hating Jimmy but not realizing they are acting like Jimmy thinking they can do better or have better solutions. I believe Curly cared and was a good man, but he was just a good man in an Unwinnable situation no matter what he did. After finding out more stuff it's not that he should've done more, it's more so that he couldn't. The fact people think he was heartless and not caring when he literally didn't have the heart to keep the fact the company is shutting down the crew after this mission for more than even a week, speaks more volumes.
