Because the beginning of the song is ment to sound like a love song until it gets to the suprise “loathing” part and subverts it, if you read the title as loathing beforehand that would ruin it

I’m not saying you’re wrong but I also feel when loathing is finally dropped within the song it’s such a ‘punchline’ that to title it loathing would undermine thr comedy

Completely agreed. It always felt like there was a reprise that was cut for act two that switched loathing to loving. That’s the only reasonable explanation for it not being called loathing.

I think it's bc when you listen TO the song the 1st time is you almost think it's a "love at first sight" thing and the funny twist is that it's the opposite and they don't want you to know right away
