Robert Bradley Rheault was awarded the Silver Star for his actions in combat in the Korean War, attaining the rank of captain. After Korea, he attended the Special Forces Qualification course in 1961. His initial assignment was with the 10th Special Forces Group in West Berlin, Germany. He would later command the 1st Special Forces Group on Okinawa before being assigned to Vietnam to take command of the 5th Special Forces Group. Fellow Green Berets said that Rheault was one of the most respected and beloved officers ever in Special Forces. His career was cut short, while in command of Project Gamma, a CIA directed Special Forces unit. A high ranking Vietnamese Double Agent named Thai Khac Chuyen was discovered and the CIA handlers ordered that he be “Terminated with Extreme Prejudice”. So the SF drove him out into the South China Sea and ☠️cuted him then threw his body overboard. When General Creighten Abrams (fuck that guy, he absolutely hated Special Forces and tried to get the Army to shut it down) heard about this, he had all 8 Green Berets including Rheault arrested and charged with Ⓜ️urder. This launched the investigation known as “The Green Beret Affair” in 1969.
