@danddbeef: Are cattle cold in the winter? When cattle have a pile of snow/ice on their back, that is a good sign! It means their body heat is not escaping (think of a roof on a house). With a full belly of forage, when they are digesting/chewing cud, this keeps them warm as their bodies are working to digest all that food. We want to make sure they have adequate access to feed during severe winter weather, their nutritional requirements increase during this time. Windbreaks and shelter are extremely important as well, this helps them maintain body heat and not "waste" energy trying to stay warm.
