At 3am ET on November 6, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said: “Congratulations to [at]realdonaldtrump on his impressive election victory! […] I appreciate President Trump’s commitment to the “peace through strength” approach in global affairs. This is exactly the principle that can practically bring just peace in Ukraine closer. I am hopeful that we will put it into action together.” At 3:15am ET, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni: “Italy and the United States are “sister” nations, bound by an unshakable alliance, common values, and a historic friendship. It is a strategic bond, which I am sure we will now strengthen even further. All the best in your work, Mr. President.” Later in the day, both Zelensky and Meloni — who’s the G7 chair for this year — had separate phone calls with Trump. Much earlier in the day yesterday — at 2:26am ET — Victor Orbán of Hungary congratulated Trump saying: “The biggest comeback in US political history!” Emmanuel Macron of France just passed 3am ET: “Ready to work together as we did for four years. With your convictions and mine. With respect and ambition. For more peace and prosperity.” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen right after 3:30am ET: “The EU and the US are more than just allies. We are bound by a true partnership between our people, uniting 800 million citizens. So let’s work together on a strong transatlantic agenda that keeps delivering for them.” Around 4:30am ET, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer: “From defence and security to growth and prosperity, the relationship between the UK and US is incredibly strong and will continue to thrive for many years to come.” #trump #digitaldiplomacy

Donald Trump has announced just one Cabinet member as his transition to the White House is underway. He tapped Susie Wiles, his campaign manager, to serve as chief of staff, making her the first woman with the title. But now, he has named two former Cabinet members who will not be returning to his administration, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley. Both were rumored for becoming Trump’s Secretary of State in his second presidency. So who’s in the running for US top diplomat? Trump’s choice will inherit a busy agenda, including high volatility in the Middle East, the war in Ukraine, the future of NATO, rising economic tensions and a more assertive China. Florida Senator Marco Rubio — who was most recently under consideration to be Trump’s vice-president — is a major name being floated for the key cabinet post. Other contenders for the job include Trump’s former national security adviser Robert O’Brien; Tennessee Senator Bill Hagerty, who was previously Trump’s ambassador to Japan; and Brian Hook, the hawkish special envoy to Iran in Trump’s first term and the man who is leading the transition effort at the State Department. A dark horse for the nomination, however, is Richard Grenell, a loyalist who served as ambassador to Germany, special envoy to the Balkans and acting national intelligence chief. Another name circulating is that of Tulsi Gabbard. A former Democratic Congresswoman and 2020 presidential candidate, Gabbard is reportedly being considered for a national security position, possibly that of Secretary of State or UN Ambassador. #diplomacy #digitaldiplomacy
