🚨 Handling being disrespected👇 🧠 Being spoken to in a disrespectful way can be very upsetting/ infuriating/ frustrating/ a whole mix of emotions. We all deserve to be treated with respect even if we have missed the mark on something. ▶️ If someone speaks to you disrespectfully, particularly if it’s a pattern, the first thing I would encourage you to do is seek support whether that’s from a senior colleague, a mentor or someone else you trust. This is really important as being spoken to like this can really impact our self esteem. 💡In a situation like this I would strongly encourage you not to meet disrespect with disrespect. Instead try to remain calm (easier said than done I know). This is what I would recommend doing: 1️⃣ Take a deep breath to help you remain calm and in control 2️⃣ Establish mutual purpose by stating that it’s also important to you to get the outcome they are after 3️⃣ Respectfully communicate your needs. This could sound like: “I want to get this right too, for me to be able to [INSERT] I need you to speak to me respectfully and provide me with examples of what bits work and which bits have fallen short” OR “I need us to approach this differently as i’m feeling very defensive which is making it difficult for me to take things in” 📌 Please remember the advice offered in this video is generalised. You know your situation better than anyone else so trust your instincts, if this doesn’t fit your situation ignore it. You’ve got this 💪 💬 Have you ever been on the receiving end of behaviour like this? Share your experiences in the comments 👀 #worktips #leadershipdevelopment #corporatelife #emotionalintelligence #manager #difficultpeople #difficultconversations #assertive #assertivecommunication #disrespect #rudepeople #
