This argument is not for the average “rich” , when the argument is displayed by the left it is directly reffering to the 1% of the 1% , the billionaires who absolutely can contribute more

Mike Honcho :
You also need to consider the tax burden. Someone paying 20% on a $30k salary is left with $24k vs someone making $3m is still left with $2.4m.

shouldn't it be noted that this includes the 750ish billionaries so it probably skews what the avg top 1% earner really pays?

are you arguing for a flat tax rate across all brackets? someone who makes 1 million can pay 500k in taxes far easier than someone who makes 50k can pay 25k in taxes

you have to look at all taxes paid to get to the actual %. look at income, payroll, corporate and excise taxes (all federal taxes) it's way under 40%

Dollar wise, the rich pay more taxes yet they still get to use the same public roads, same police, same fire department, etc as someone who paid less taxes.
So why would they want to pay more?

We could tax income over 1m at 40% for sure. Loans using stocks should make the stock gains be considered realized gains.

See if I get it. If I own a trillion dollars and had to pay a million dollars and a person who is struggling to pay rent has to pay 10k. And the total tax collection is 1.010.000$. Is it fair system?

Curious to your thoughts on this, maybe 0% tax on everyone’s first 75k, then 25% flat tax combined with a tax on luxury goods and high tax on private flights, yachts, etc

The capital gains rates are 0, 15, or 20 so they would still be lower than the marginial rates the of like 35-37%. BTW capital assets are rental, stocks/other securities, antiques, and etc

There’s been a historic transfer of wealth from the middle class to the top and for the first time in over a100 years we re seeing a decline in living standards show you the tax system is broken

@Taylor: Eh. The “1%” isn’t the rich being referenced in this debate. More like the .002% earning >50m. For this portion of the population, a ludicrously high marginal rate is absolutely arguable
