Meanwhile, prepare your dye color: In a separate pot, simmer 1 cup of vegetable (in this case, beetroot) with 2 cups of water. Let it simmer for 40 minutes to 1 hour until the color releases into the water, depending on how large the beetroot pieces are. Let the dye cool. Once the fabric has simmered in the mordant and cooled (no need to rinse), you can soak it in the dye. If you prefer a stronger color, you can double the amount of vegetables or do a second soak. Once the fabric is completely dry, run it under cold water until the water runs clear. Then allow it to hang or lay flat to dry again. Since natural dyes tend to fade over time, wash the fabric at 20°C or by hand using a pH-neutral soap.
