Bakugo and Izuku have a very strong relationship, and while I’m not saying they must or should be canon, here’s why they are often seen as close: First of all, Bakugo has gone from bullying and mocking Deku to a level of respect and understanding. He bullied and insulted Deku because he always believed Deku was better than him, even when he was Quirkless. Secondly, Bakugo trusts Deku deeply. Bakugo isn’t the kind of person who likes physical contact, but with Izuku, he feels comfortable enough to do anything—often aggressively grabbing his head or face. Additionally, Bakugo hates showing weakness, yet he has talked about his fears and passions openly with Deku, even crying in front of him (and Bakugo hates crying). Let’s not forget that Bakugo despises rain, but he still stood in it while apologizing to Deku. Bakugo has always been there for Deku, and Deku has always been there for Bakugo. They understand each other better than anyone else. Furthermore, in the official animation of My Hero Academia, there is a scene where they hold each other’s hand. Isn’t that touch far more romantic than anything between Izuku and Ochaco? There’s also a scene from Deku’s POV where Bakugo is highlighted in orange while the rest of the class is in black and white. This visually emphasizes that Deku sees Bakugo as the most important and closest person to him. The animation also highlights that Bakugo has always wanted Deku to continue his path as a hero—even to the point of sacrificing his own Quirk. At the end of the manga, Bakugo says, “I thought we’d be competing with each other for the rest of our lives…” This shows that Bakugo had envisioned a future with Deku and cries because he realizes he’s lost a part of that happy future. He even spent 8 years of his life and money saving up to create Deku’s hero costume. On the other hand, Ochaco rarely visited Deku (once every 8 months), while Bakugo visited frequently (about once a week). They often talked and reflected on their past. Ochaco likely didn’t fully understand how difficult things were for Deku when he lost OFA, whereas Bakugo understood perfectly—that’s why he created the hero costume. Future Ochaco had a lot of financial freedom as a pro hero and could afford to contribute much more, but she didn’t sacrifice much until the very end when Bakugo himself asked her. All of this showcases and justifies why people ship Bakugo and Deku. Horikoshi actually says “I’m not going to do cannon ships, cause MHA was created by heroism and potential”. This extra pages by assistants, also Horikoshi didn’t want to do it cannon, so it’s half cannon or not cannon. There are no cannon ships.
