Honestly, we don’t do anything that’s considered homeschool. We still mostly balance our time between play with friends, video games and favorite tv shows on repeat, fishing at the lake, or on our trampoline in the backyard. And yet he’s hit all milestones. He wakes up randomly every few months and will want me to explain division to him for example, and then he’s got it and we spend another few months just playing. Trusting the process has been a HUGE area of growth for me- Some things that I’ve found helps is ✨lots of focus on special interests- studies show autistic children absorb the information and retain it way more when it is special interest focused. ✨asking him to teach me about things he is interested in. ✨letting him learn things when he is actually ready, which is usually slightly after schools tell you they should have learned it (but then he learns it easily and advances past it). ✨Prioritizing connection and coregulation above learning or tasks. ✨LOTS of Sensory rich experiences. #protectivedemandavoidance #pdaautistic #pdaautism #autistic #autisticfamily #unschooling #audhd #pathologicaldemandavoidance #pervasivedriveforautonomy
