God knows we need a human element to receive full forgiveness. we need to hear it. I sinmed and it took me over 20 years to confess the sin since I felt such shame. the priest I confessed to was so amazing and my penance was to count the number of times I hear the word "peace" at mass. so the next mass I went to I counted and it was about 15 times. I felt so relieved. thank God for confession
