I think for me this is one of the problems. If someone who is meant to be a leader requires interpretation to be understood “correctly”, how can we trust anything they say? Whatever their politics.

Talking to relatives boils down to "I don't believe my actions SHOULD hurt anyone so I'm blameless/can do whatever I want" and they believe the same of anyone who agrees with them. It's exhausting.
