The 3D Printed Loop De Loop ••• This is something I’ve spent a surprising amount of time trying to figure out- how to 3D print a smooth loop where the layer lines travel along the profile of the loop. If I were trying to print this on it’s own, the loop would either need to be printed vertically which would require supports. The tracks would also be stepped resulting in a not-very-smooth solution. Alternatively, if printed on its side, you would again need support material, or you would need to extrude to a flat part. This would again create awkward steps. By instead printing the loop flat, and then using a heat gun to allow the part to bend, you get a smooth continuous loop. Simple solution with a really great result! ••• #engineering #designtips #3dprintingideas #3dprinting #3dmodeling #mechanism #mechanicaldesign #engineeringdesign #engineeringtips
