One year while traveling from MI to IL, I-94 closed due to lake effect snow. Thankfully we were able to get off the hwy and get a hotel. We ended up there 3 days. Having a kit like this is a must!

As someone who has grown up near Lake Erie, my dad always stressed keeping a kit in the back of the car with warm clothes, a blanket, water, snacks, road flares, first aid kit, etc.

They're not the cheapest, but you can buy ready heat disposable heated blankets. I keep one in my car that warms up when exposed to air.

The longest I’ve been stuck in a snowstorm with my car in MN was 3.5 hours, I’m lucky I wasn’t far from a place with emergency services and tow trucks

My brother when my kids were small said something to use the bathroom in too. Carried a training potty for years and honestly never regretted it. Now I have a portable female urinal.

I have a car that my back seats fold down. My kit is right behind the seats so I can get it without leaving my car.A car battery jumper,full cell phone charger and solar charger. Thank you!!🌟

I'm actually from that lake effect snow area of NY/PA and now I live in Indiana. I'm shocked how many people here in central IN know NOTHING about any of this. we were taught this as a child

What do you do in summer? How do you keep batteries/food in good condition in case you get stranded. Might be a dumb question. I live in Central WA State & get hard winters & extreme summers.

And look at the content of you “warm” gear. Synthetics like acrylic, polyester and even cotton gets COLD when wet. Wool socks, gloves, hat and blanket is the absolute best bet.

The fire dept took most of them to the fire halls…other ppl were seeking shelter from ppl in nearby homes. We are STILL going thru this and expecting an addition 3’ tomorrow. It’s been nonstop

Great ideas!! also we live in Canada and people die every year because they don't stay with their vehicles!! Do not try to walk for help in -40 degree temps or a snow storm.
