@knittingcultlady: Replying to @Auntie-Rocket🚀✨️🌌 part of the problem with AA, and something we should continuously critique, is that they don’t think anyone is capable of analyzing them. You are not above scrutiny AA we have analyzed you for many years, and found you wanting in many many different ways. Hang out on this page and you will be able to understand all of the problems with your cult, too. #knittingcultlady #knitting #cults #cults #brainwashed #alcoholicsaononymous
AA has been nothing but a trigger for me. My nervous system would freak out as soon as I walked in. Stayed away and am 4 yrs sober now

My husband has tried AA multiple times, his nervous system always kicks into overdrive because he subconsciously recognizes the culty aspects/attempts to control. And whenever he tries to talk to anyone about it, the immediate responses “you are not dedicating yourself to the program enough“ which is…. Suspect 😅

also, people kicking addiction tend to replace that addiction with another....which can be the group. ❤️

I was in a rehab facility where one of the therapists rewrote the 12 steps to focus on oneself as their "higher power" and to lean into one's own strength to get sober. he was awesome.

11 years sober. People actually get mad when I tell them I left AA after 3 meetings. It’s not for everyone. I am also a cult survivor. Too many similarities. For me.

You validated the feeling I have always had about AA. That many (not all) people in it replace their addiction with to alcohol with one to AA. I once met someone I clicked with, thought we could 1/2

Hubby had to go to three different therapists before one would suggest a non-AA addiction help. Glad he did the work though. Almost 6 months sober, without AA.

👏 I love your content! As someone who was born into a church “commune” I now see as a cult, your deconstruction of cults helps me make sense of the memories and feelings I have about my experiences

My sister has been in AA for 30 years, and never gone past the first step. But because she's in AA, everyone thinks she's a saint and martyr. Fuck AA

What are some examples of things people commonly think are cults that are by definition, not actually cults? Anything interesting?

2 years sober here. I went to aa strictly to make myself look better for court. AA always felt extremely off to me spiritually

I once said in a meeting "You don't have to be a diabetic to treat diabetes, or have to experience mental illness to treat it" as a criticism and they took it as some profound wisdom about how unique

been to meetings and couldn't get passed the "if u don't come to these everyday, you'll go back" Nah. I stopped, I healed. I can drink casually and have no interest in drinking in excess.
