@eugbrandstrat: The era of the woke rebrand is over: why might that be a good thing for social progress? Today: a look back at the strange marriage of capitalism and progressive values via brand purpose, a proposal on what ‘woke’ even means in a brand context, why getting comms out of D&I is great, actually, and why we are heading out of a decade of saying and into a decade of doing. #marketing #brandstrategy #marketingstrategy #brandmarketing #jaguar
Can you speak more on the Simon Sinek bs of purpose driven profit? I’ve never been into it and would love your take!

Loooove - this is why Ben & Jerry’s is still one of the best of actually marrying social messaging and policy advocacy!

When brands push values too hard they loose sight of their own brand, they all end up in a uniformed muddle

My feelings going to Sydney Mardi Gras and seeing large coporate logos plastered over every surface.. as you said, feels like they’re co-opting everything, thanks for talking about this topic 🙂↔️

This is probably the best in-depth look at co-opting DEI and progressive ideals through the capitalist, corporate lens. A system that sees people as widgets and consumers can’t see anything different

Correct me if I’m wrong but before that corporate were addressing social responsibility (CSR). That in itself was a PR exercise.

“A true purpose doesn’t create profit, it sacrifices it” — so intriguing! Please expound in your letter.

Sincerity, authenticity, “doing not saying”, sacrificing profit for progress - all this feels more human than corporate.

I think the key word is collaborate (over co-opt) . Brilliant. Participatory brands has also been a trend. Gotta discover your audience vs dictate it

I think its so dangerous when brands act as political while they can not really have any political change and its also not their job to do so… its the job of politicians!

You had me in the first half. I think a good thing about The disappearance of the woke rebrand is it’s a reminder that we the people need to do the work rather than waiting for corporations to do the work for us. They were just there for the profits.

You had me at Simon Sinek 😂 was this a reference to a distaste for ‘purpose branding’? If so, I agree ☝🏻
