the second example is a bit controversial. the air that goes to the back of the battery has already passed through the front and has picked up the heat from those cells.

just remember..hot air is lighter than cold air .. the hot cells will have more air flow overtime since the air around it is lighter and easily pushed around

A 3d printed air divertor would be a great idea. If they could get equal flow the cylindrical batteries should still have some better heat dissipation as they have an bigger air gap
