My version of Drew’s 50 Scarves Dress 🥹✨ I am so grateful that you all were here, cheering me on, for OVER A YEAR, while this came together! I would consider this a *very* bougie upcycle and I know that’s a big reason I wanted to tackle it. It brought together so many aspects of my life, my story, and my journey as a sewist! It had everything that sets my brain on fire. A mysterious back story? Hard to source pieces? Whimsy? Magic? Nostalgia!? So many things to figure out, deconstruct and build. A true passion project, and a love letter to my childhood self. The original gown was worn by Drew, to a ball in Florence, Italy. It was held to coincide with the European premiere of Ever After. Celebrities, socialites, artists and designers came together to celebrate- dressed in amazing garments, all to the Renaissance theme. Drew’s dress was designed by Ferragamo, who also designed the iconic slippers for the movie. It was made up of Ferragamo scarves, in a few different patterns and many color ways. It was custom made for Drew, for the event. An article from a 1998 issue of In Style, about the event, confirms these details and also gives a quote from Drew that night: “I feel as though I’m part of a fairytale.” Me too, Drew.
