believe you're right, it sounds awkward. thinking Kirk/ it should have read, 'I'm aware ...' instead. feels like an incomplete thought as is.

Writer may not really be familiar with Star Trek but got paid for the book. No, Kirk's response does not make sense. Kirk could refuse orders but then will probably lose command, go to jail.

as for Kirk's suicide mission, probably. he is an enlisted officer. they seem 2 come up w/ completing a mission but not follow orders. as for transport system, 1 consequence: gradation/error of copies

Must have meant “I am aware, Mr Spock”. Maybe the author doesn’t fully know Star Trek but they’re a decent writer over all. The story flows well. The map is a great idea. I’m in ch 7.
