@eatinginberlin: Berlin went from zero to 20 out of nowhere, when it comes to individual "hotpots" called Malatang or Maocai. The concept is similar to a hotpot, but instead of sitting around the table and cooking the ingredients in a communal pot, everyone gets to choose their individual preferred foods and broth to enjoy. Here are a few tips for first timers: - I know it's tempting, but don't get the instant noodles, they will be completely soggy in the end, because some other ingredients needs longer cooking. Get some sweet potato noodles or rice cakes instead. - If you want some kind of carbs, order a side of side, it goes perfectly. - Any type of fish balls, shrimp balls, chicken balls or tofu cakes are great, because they add some flavors to the broth and taste delicious with a bouncy texture. - Also try veggies like seaweeds or shiitake mushrooms, they add a lot of natural umami and are great in texture. - As I mentioned in the video: Never skip corn, rice cakes or some kind of mushrooms! - Fish tastes good in the soup, but it's a fragile ingredient and I would use shrimps instead, if you like seafood. - I really loved the tender (spicy) beef and would highly recommend it.
