As a flight attendant 99% of the bags that don’t fit in my airlines overhead bins are bags that are extended. I’ve noticed specifically with the beis bags, they never fit when extended.

Every airline has different size requirements you need to read the dimensions. Most extenders go over the size requirements for US airlines. Most carry on US sizes without extenders are too large for

Just because a bag is sold, doesn't mean an airline must accept it. The extender is great if you need more room and then you just check it.

The ‘extender’ changes the dimensions of the bag. Whether or not a bag is accepted as a carryon is based on its dimensions. Idk where the confusion is

Each carrier has a definition of a carryon with demensions for said carryon. Extended would exceed those dimensions, making it no longer be a carry on. Seems straightforward
