In Fiji ONLY women were tattooed (it's called Veiqia), and ONLY women did the tattooing. It makes sense that if the knowledge was passed/shared that it would only be done through women,as in the story

it's Fiji because those two women are also in our folklore and the place they got it from is in the second island in Vanua Levu and for us only females has that samuqawa(tattoo) and as they swam back
