Man I believe a well drawn out theory would be cool to theorize about. A lot of what ifs in farming especially with manufacturing. What I would give to be in and around the showrooms back then!

But 1206 was never a vs 4020 806/826/856 are 4020 comp it’s really 1130/d21/1950t vs 1206 and that battle shouldn’t affect 4020 or 1100 na Tractors.

As others have said, the 560 soured a lot of buyers away. Couple that with poor hydraulics, a bad cab in the 86's and being one of the last to have a powershift, I think the end result stays the same.

Still 1930’s technology. Open center hydraulics. Straight cut gears. F20,M,560,1206,1086 all built the same.

We still use our 1206 and 220 Allis a lot!!! Great tractors!!!! No green here!!!!

The 1206 is one of the best looking tractors still to this day. There will always be icon tractors of every brand. JD 4020, AC D21, JD 6030, the higher horsepower ones.

The real question is If the 1206 would have been out in 1964, and stolen sales away from the 4020, would International Harvester been able to get ahead of John Deere.

I had seen the other day in a Facebook group of a John Deere A prototype with a 4 cylinder engine and Model M style rear end. Wonder how many stories are out there of test tractors with alt engines.

I don't think the 1206 coming out two years sooner would have changed much for IH because I believe the 4020,806,1100 were the perfect size for the big horse on the average farm. the largest tractor being built no matter what company is only desired by a small percentage of farms. just my 2 cents
