How to stop birds from eating your crops: spoil them! The birds may or may not have forced me to make this video. All jokes aside, birds are an important part of the garden. Learning to work with them rather than against them can improve the health of your backyard ecosystem, and save you some hassle and some crops in the long run. Plus, bird watching kinda creeps up on you. #gardening #gardentips #gardening101 #howtogarden #birdtok #backyardgarden #gardeninspo
Who else was sick over Christmas and new years so they’re celebrating this weekend instead? 🙋🏻♀️ just me? These homemade ginger bread cookies were so good that I’m not going to be waiting another year to make them. They may just become a cookie staple in this household! Gingerbread valentine cookies, st pattys cookies, they’re going to be every holiday cookie. Here’s the recipe from Living the Gourmet: Ingredients for cookies: 3 cups all purpose flour 1 tsp baking soda 1/2 cup white sugar 1/2 cup dark brown sugar 1 egg 1 tsp ground cinnamon 1/2 tsp ground cloves 3 tsp freshly grated ginger root 2 tbsp unsulfured molasses 1/4 cup canola oil 4 tbsp butter Pinch of salt Icing: 1/4 cup white chocolate chips Pat of unsalted butter -In a large bowl, mix sugars, egg, cinnamon, cloves, fresh ginger, oil, butter, molasses and salt. Stir until combined. -Sift flour and baking soda into the bowl and mix until wet sticky dough forms. -transfer dough to cling film, wrap and refrigerate for a couple of hours until firm. -preheat oven to 350 F -flour your surface and rolling pin. Turn dough out onto floured surface and roll the dough out into a large rectangle about 1/4 inch thick, or roll pieces of the dough out into sections. -use a cookie cutter to cut into desired shapes. Place cookies on a greased baking sheet. -bake for 8-10 minutes or until cookies are golden brown. Transfer to cooling rack and let cool completely. -in a double boiler or microwave, melt down white chocolate and butter. Transfer to piping bag and decorate cookies as desired. Done! #gardentok #gardentotable #gardening #backyardgarden
Winter Sowing is a gardening technique that taps into the magic of the cold season to prepare for a vibrant spring. To create your winter sowing jug, start by selecting a translucent container, such as an old milk jug, ensuring it allows sunlight to reach the seeds within. Carefully cut the upper part of the jug, preserving the handle to transform it into a mini-greenhouse. Next, fill the base of the jug with high-quality potting mix and choose cold-hardy seeds suitable for winter sowing. Gently water the seeds, ensuring the soil is evenly moist, and seal the jug with its lid, making sure to add ventilation holes for air circulation. Find a suitable outdoor spot for your jugs, allowing them to embrace the cold weather for natural seed stratification. Over the following weeks, observe as the seeds awaken and tiny sprouts emerge. Once the risk of frost has passed, transplant the seedlings into your garden or larger pots. Winter sowing is a simple and cost-effective method that harmonizes with nature’s seasonal rhythms, providing a delightful way to kickstart your garden. Happy Winter Sowing! 💚 #gardentips #wintersowing #seedstarting #gardeninghacks #gardentok
