@olimould: Football hipsters represent what Bourdieu would have called part of class “distinction” (you may well have other 4-letter words for them…) #EduTok #football #hipster #marxism #class #fyp
I researched exactly this for my masters dissertation! Titled ‘Exploring the relationship between social class and the cultural consumption of football in the UK’. I’d love to send it to you 🤩

As a non-football fan, it just strikes me as people wanting to be closer to the action/feel closer to the team. Like seeing a small band in a small venue vs. seeing someone at the O2 Arena.

What you said about styles of play can be seen in the phrase "Brexit tackle" I reckon

From an American perspective, your options are support the billionaire owned franchise or support nothing because the lower leagues aren’t allowed to exist

I agree, but i think it misses some key drivers such as low league football being a different/very fun type of football, wanting to support smaller businesses/clubs and it being a cheap day out

Does it prove your point irrelevant that your idea of taste in this case is related to a style of football that only became prevelant post pep barca

Many similarities with how ‘hipsters’ choose holidays. Am guessing the travel section in the Guardian will be making suggestions for cities breaks to edgy places like Tirana and Belgrade where

Where I live, we don't have a "top level" football team (Carlisle is the nearest city), so my local football team (Workington) is still very much a working class, community endeavour.

I’m conflicted. I go and watch Windsor and Eton FC, very low league but royalty connotations 😭

Any thoughts on the Wrexham show and its introduction to many American and international fans to the lower leagues of English football?

I think we should all support smaller teams though, ultimately building and contributing towards a smaller more community focused club is much better than chucking your money into the rotting bottomless pit of clubs like Man United and Chelsea

It’s true, although I think the hipsters are helping in some cases to keep small teams going financially which preserves them for the local community.

I studied this uni and applied it to literature. Canons etc. I had many arguments in teacher training about what constitutes quality essays. Kings or celebrities etc.
