you need to hoover out the damp first with normal hoover. (I renovate houses and I often have to do this 😭) then use carpet cleaner. scrub it and then hoover again

We knocked over a massive tub of brown fence paint over on the landing the week before the new people moved in and it went all down the stairs and the walls too 🥲🥲🥲

Carpet fitter here. Looks like you’ve got a polypropylene or polyester carpet. Thankfully not wool. Warm mildly soapy water and a wet vac will get rid of it👌

I accidentally spilled an entire Stanley cup of water on my bedroom floor the other night, didn't notice until the morning and now it's all swollen 🤣 it's a good job I have spare flooring in the loft for the person who's bought my house
