I prep & I know the only times it's not enough is when they completely disregard prompts and derail the campaign, in which case I have an emergency cache of distractions, including "talking kitten"

On the other hand when you do prep enough they do about 1/3 of what you planned, get stuck on a puzzle and manage to sleep with a key NPC

my players spent a while convincing a devil to help them age their wrymlings into greatwyrms. then they spent 2 hours comprimising with arch angels to have limited visitation with their greatwryms.

The more I prep, the less likely they are to do anything with it. Yesterday I Pantsed the entire session and it went great. Even Google maps I needed on the fly.
