"Gated" is a term I have not heard in decades. But that what they called it at my boarding school too. Young people today would find how life was at my boarding school in the 80s really shocking.

The boarding house mums used to be chill “back in my day”. I used to pick mates up for sleepovers pretty spontaneously. This was back in like 08 though so people have probably retired.

I’m sure there’s more to this, but I’m hearing that they gave you chores and responsibilities the same way as if you were at home.. which is what a boarding house is, right? Home away from home? And there were consequences (grounding-common) if you didn’t.

I was a day girl at a boarding school, but I know that people definitely got banned from going anywhere on weekends, I don't think they took away laptops only because desktops were almost completely phased out at one point
