@guythompson.me: Flashback to working in visual effects and animation for film. This is an extreme example as it’s the homepage from the blackmagic website, the Australian company that makes the da Vinci resolve software, but the concept is the same. do you have the director or the producer or the visual of hex supervisor sitting at the top of the editing suite overlooking all of the different pieces getting put together and to speed up the communication process, you will have the different assistants sitting in the same room supporting the person who is the lead who is assembling everything together for review and approval. this is the final stage for approving the visual effects shots that go into the finished movie (or tv commercial) often the last-minute fixes are a little bit of colour grading to tweak the way it looks or they might be a very small on screen fix to paint something out or make a small adjustment that the lead compositor or editor can do to complete the shot. confusingly this kind of suite was caught an online editing suite, versus an off-line editing suite. It had nothing to do with the Internet, the online suite was just the most expensive one used for mastering or finishing. Off-line was just a working in progress low res version before you got to the online finishing stage. I did a mixture of roles in this process, including being a lead sitting the middle with all the pressure to deliver the final shots, and talking with the director and producer, as well as being an assistant, sitting off to the side in front of the producer and director in the suite. Other times I would also be working in another room nearby and then coming and going backwards and forwards as shots got approved. The client free for working in this kind of room was around $12,000 per day in 2007 haha so its MUCH more expensive now. Also one of the computers we were using for Lord of the Rings was $1.5 million in 2002 🤣

What I always love about the big editing suites is their set-up is basically the set design for the bridge of any Star Trek ship, crew screens/chairs with the Captain/ directors chair 😁

And you’re probably gonna ask me why I don’t do this work any more. Frankly, it’s because if someone’s gonna ask me to do something, I want them to say it to my face, not the back of my head. 😅
