Green sputum does indicate it may be a bacterial infection and may require antibiotics !

I got this reaction all the time waited for 11 days because I didn’t want to be told it wasn’t anything and ended up with pneumonia, double ear and sinus — what’s the balance ?

As a nurse and almost NP, I’m seeing the pendulum swing a little too hard in the other direction though. I’m still bedside currently and seeing a lot of pts with pna who had been denied abx outpt

If feeling better but bringing up green phlegm, likely not bacterial infection. If feeling worse over time and bringing up phlegm, it’s looking like antibiotics needed. That’s how what I’ve been told

Not giving antibiotics is fine but please tell people what to buy for their symptoms specifically to make them feel better

Sometimes , an antibiotic is what is needed . If I don’t have them I just do not get better . It’s gone too far the other way

My doctor told me once to wait a few days, if I needed it at that point if not better to message her on mychart. I ended up getting better. She was right. But I felt confident I wouldn’t have to beg if I needed it. Feeling like it would be easy to get care if needed after waiting a couple days took the anxiety out of it.
