Fueled by arrogance, he demanded worship from everyone, yet his son Prahlad remained devoted to Vishnu. Enraged by his son’s faith, Hiranyakashipu attempted to kill Prahlad numerous times, but each time, Vishnu protected him. Finally, Hiranyakashipu challenged Prahlad about Vishnu’s omnipresence. In a flash, Lord Vishnu appeared from a pillar in his ferocious Narasimha avatar. He attacked Hiranyakashipu at dusk, holding him on his lap, on the threshold of his palace, and killed him with his claws, thus fulfilling the terms of Hiranyakashipu’s invincibility.
