@deardarlingdesignstudio: Lee and I are on our third annual mommy and me trip this weekend! In 2022 when I had a 6 month old baby, I decided to take Lee on a one on one trip to Hersheypark for Christmas. When I asked him what he wanted for Christmas that year he just said “to spend time with you”. And it broke my mama heart. He went from having all of the time in the world, to very little because his little brother obviously needed a lot more attention. I can imagine being almost 7 years old and having a sibling is a big transition. This has been one of my more controversial parenting decisions and I’ve gotten some flack for leaving my youngest with his dad (who’s also his parent, a capable father and can handle him for a little over 24 hours…), singling out one kid to spend one on one time with (even though I have spent 40 hours a week alone with my youngest for the past 2.5 years while my oldest is at school), and spending money on trips (while I’m getting things on a Black Friday discount and spending way less than I would on a physical gift while making memories lol) but I think it’s one of my BEST parenting decisions. Just like friends, family etc, you need to spend one on one time with people to build stronger bonds. Why wouldn’t I want to do that with my children?! Who I want to have the STRONGEST bonds with?? Lee and I had an amazing time at the park! But honestly his favorite part is the hotel after. We get junk food, pig out and watch bad cable tv (which he only sees in hotels lol last night we watched Storage Wars which was a fave of mine when I was pregnant with him), go swimming in the pool, eat a continental breakfast together, and just stay up late laughing and spending time together. Then we take our little 1.5 hour road trip back. It truly has been one of my fave memories of the year for the last 3 years, and I hope to continue this as long as he wants to! And when my youngest gets a little older, I’ll do a one on one trip with him too. Maybe around Halloween, he’s more of a spooky dude anyways. Haha. #momsofinstagram #momlife #bigkids #parentingtips #parentingquotes
