Take it to a vacuum shop and have them put new carbon brushes in the motor. That’s what causes it to spark.

I thought orecks had a mode where you could just turn the brush off then you can roll it back-and-forth and it won’t get caught and there’s still suction or you could just use a vacuum that does not have a spinning brush roll

when I was little we had that same exact oreck but the motor caught fire mid vaccuming and almost caught the carpet on fire. Now we have a red oreck that’s been working great but the brush sounds horrible but still runs ok
