@cspanofficial: Vice President Kamala Harris on Monday swore in Andy Kim (D-NJ) and Adam Schiff (D-CA) as new senators, replacing interim Sens. George Helmy (D-NJ) and Laphonza Butler (D-CA). Sens. Kim and Schiff both won election to six-year terms in November, but were appointed by their states’ governors to replace the interim senators, giving them more seniority over the other freshmen members in their class. Sen. Pete Ricketts (R-NE), who was appointed in 2023 to fill the seat of former Sen. Ben Sasse (R-NE), was also sworn in after he won a special election to complete the remaining two years of Mr. Sasse’s unexpired term. The resignations of Sens. Kim and Schiff from the House also means there are now 220 Republicans to 211 Democrats in the lower chamber. #adamschiff #andykim #petericketts #senate #kamalaharris #cspan
