Straight up facts 👇🏽 I have watched (for MANY years) the practice yoga get further away from its true essence and from the culture I was raised with…to become something it really isn’t. One of the saddest things about that is that it excludes so many people. The way it’s often taught is rooted in toxic diet culture and of course cultural appropriation. Finding the right teachers to learn about the practice is so essential to make sure you are learning about yoga in a truthful and authentic manner, but also so that you are respecting the roots from where it originated. Follow @weareunearthed to learn online from incredible, authentic, South Asian teachers. It goes against many of the laws to take a practice and manipulate it to be something it’s not. And I’m guessing you think that you are not doing this? But if you are practising in an inauthentic way, or teaching in a way that only serves a certain segment of society, then you are absolutely part of the problem and a contributor to the issue.
