Sounds like this employee just wants all the best shifts. If nobody said anything I'd leave it alone but if others have asked for those shifts too, boss is right.

I ended up quiting a job that did this to me. I had Sundays off and Got off at 8:45 every night, I was the only one who needed to take the bus and it didn't run on Sundays, and 9 pm was the last one.

The ONLY reasonable reason to change up long standing rosters is if there are complaints from staff. Eg “X gets all the best shifts, we’d like to rotate on those shifts too”
