over a decade ago now, my father drove us two hours to a rescue showing event. we looked at dogs in kennels and I made a mental list, but he told us he'd promised someone specific he'd take a look.

While yes many dogs are overlooked just based on looks or shyness, please remember many dogs are there for a long period of time or have been returned many times due to significant behavior issues.

My male cat was the only kitten left because he was a little cross eyed. He is the SWEETEST boy ever. And now his eyes only cross when he's super focused on something ❤️

He looks a lil bit like Sir Didymus from Labyrinth 😭. Also I 100% agree with you. My best friend was a cat called Dora who had been dumped and was shy. The woman at the shelter asked "are you sure?"

My cat Mufasa was nearing the end of his shelter stay, wasn’t “friendly”. He was just traumatized. Once I got him home he turned into a total love bug.

Wonderful message! I got my cat off a Facebook post, a foster home was closing and they had to find emergency homes. All the comments were arguing for the fuzzy kittens and I saw my cat, not a single comment or like on her, but I could tell from that picture she was mine, and she is my little bestie even lays on my shoulders

I adopted my dog after he was at the shelter for less that a week. No one had asked about him yet. I think most people would have returned him but... I couldn't. I was already emotionally committed.

I got both my pets this way, my dog was aging out of the puppy cuteness and was a nipped so no one would go for her. And my cat was scared to be shown and lived in the pounds womens employee restroom.

Our boy Etchasketch kept getting no-shows because it said special needs. He was a litte wobbley. And what do you know, he even grew out of it a little bit. Deaf and a little wobbly didn’t stop us

We did that with our rescue dog. We went in didn’t see any dogs we wanted then saw her. When we got her they said she’d been there for 6 months & no one ever looked at her. She was 10 months & sick.
