it seems to me that there's no other reason for regular people to be on juries than to allow for this. experts would obviously be much better suited to determine if a person has broken the law or not

So does the jury announce that they are saying “not guilty” despite the evidence? If not, how do we know that a verdict was jury nullification as opposed to a regular “not guilty” verdict?
