@pbymgts: This is how I handle pre-terrible two tantrums... I often hear that he’s too young to throw tantrums. The primary cause of tantrums at this age is his inability to communicate his feelings, so I’m focusing on teaching and encouraging communication in our interactions. I remain calm and refrain from addressing his pouting until his physical needs are met. Right now, my aim is not to solve the problem but to simply attend to his needs, so I demonstrate my presence and reassure him that it’s okay to cry. Much of this process allows him to navigate his emotions and actions independently. It’s mostly about guiding him to communicate his needs rather than resorting to tantrums to get what he wants. He’s not ready for advanced discipline techniques yet. For now, it’s about demonstrating love, support, and offering solutions rather than correcting behavior. Being mindful of his tantrums now will pave the way for smoother transitions into the terrible twos. In the next 12 months, I’ll gradually introduce more advanced discipline methods.
