I once saw a production where the Chinese section was a traditional dragon dance, it was respectful and extremely cool. I wish more dance companies would do something like that

coffee and tea are not for children anymore so it doesn't make much sense in a modern context anyway, most productions I've seen have fun with this and do other sweets

I never even THOUGHT of the possibility of it being disrespectful because the company I grew up watching NEVER did stuff like that

The company I danced nutcracker with had Arabian, Chinese, and Russian but they had traditional costumes and dances. It’s was so cool to be apart of, especially Arabian. Our leads were a peacocks.

I wish companies would use this as an education opportunity for their dancers. Bring in an instructor and teach the dancers the traditional dances from each country represented. Then…

I remember as a kid seeing all those roles and thinking, “this feels kind of racist,” then I had a dream they added African and all the kids were doing black face and thinking,”now that’s def racist!”

Something that always confused me was at every one I went to the women with children who’d go in and out of her dress was played by a man. And it always seemed to be treated as a joke

I don't get why some ballet company's or dance studios don't see the issue 😐 mine always kept the name and some of the original colors but NEVER the face paint
