@bonemuseum: In today’s video, we are honored to have Nori, share his insights and explain our museum’s policies on NAGPRA, as an Indigenous person. We felt it was most appropriate for this important conversation to be guided by his voice and perspective, ensuring that the significance of this policy is communicated accurately and respectfully as it deserves. The Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), enacted in 1990, is a U.S. federal law that protects the rights of Native American tribes, Alaska Native villages, and Native Hawaiian organizations to reclaim ancestral human remains, funerary objects, sacred items, and cultural patrimony. It requires federally funded institutions and agencies to inventory and repatriate these items to their affiliated tribes upon request and protects Native burial sites on federal and tribal lands from unauthorized disturbance. NAGPRA also prohibits the trafficking of Native American human remains and cultural artifacts, mandating penalties for violations. This legislation addresses historical injustices by respecting Native traditions, returning cultural heritage to rightful communities, and promoting ethical treatment of Indigenous remains and artifacts. #bonemuseum #bonetok #jonsbones

My aunt is the president of the genealogical society in Puerto Rico. 61% of us have mitochondrial dna for Taíno and those of us with that dna are 10-15% Taíno. About 10K people identify as Taíno in the last census. My aunt and her team gather and archive as much genetic data as possible for future generations. Dr. Norma Feliberti Aldebol

I truly enjoyed watching this video in every way. Nori did a great job for sure. The only thing I don’t enjoy are the rude and quite odd comments made by some of the people. It appears that there are always going to be those few people that only look to find fault with others. I just hope Nori isn’t affected negatively by their lack of care for other people’s feelings.
