I really struggle with the “it’s going to be okay” and “parents leave; parents come back” statements because, from close personal experience, that’s not always the case. Sometimes things don’t turn out

What if you’re a parent with ocd and anxiety, parenting a kid with anxiety and some ocd tendencies. I’m trying so hard to help her be better than me. It’s so hard when I’m actively struggling myself

I ask my daughter "please tell me why youre scared, what do you think is the worst that can happen?" and we talk about what we would do in that worst case scenario. then she feels better. I try not to say "that won't happen" but demonstrate even if something bad does happen we can face it (she's 6 so her "worst case" isn't usually that deep).

Isn’t this “anxiety” human nature? It’s a good thing a child is concerned about.

Thank you for sharing, I’m going to buy some of your books! We are struggling with severe anxiety here, and I’m so exhausted of walking on eggshells

This is excellent advice and I appreciate it so much. Do you have any recommendations for kids who are afraid of the dark or sleeping alone?

When I didn’t accommodate my daughter’s anxiety and separated from her she started to experience depersonalization symptoms causing more fear and anxiety. I have such a tough time with balance.

Welp this just let me know that I accommodate my own anxiety. I am a huge planner to give myself some sense of comfort and relief.

we have to be so careful how we navigate pushing them towards overcoming their fears. i was looking at pix of son when small and felt terrible for pushing him to do things out of comfort zone. 1 of 2

Which of your books would be best for helping the child that doesn’t want to leave the house? Age 16. Thank you!

This is how I know God is real. I have really been struggling with OCD and anxiety in my 7 yr old and i have anxiety so I really accommodate him thinking I am helping.

I think the accommodating also stems from either one or both of the parents having untreated OCD or Anxiety themselves. Which adds to the difficulty 🫠

I’m working on distress tolerance with my 13 yo who has struggled with anxiety since she was in kinder. I only recently realized I’ve never helped her develop this skill, which amplifies her anxiety.
