Truth Time: My nuggets pet peeve are people are who inconsistent. Now - to be clear - I am no saint. I have my own struggles and sometimes life happens. As it does to all of us. Learning to keep the promise you made to yourself is ultimate flex. There is no audience when you’re making that commitment real. No fans. No likes. No Quote Tweets. It’s just you and yourself. But, most things are at the other end of our ability to consistently pursue it. You are not your desires. Yours are not your hopes. You are not your dreams. You are not your friends. You are not your words. You are not your thoughts. You are that which you consistently DO! So how do you become more consistent? 1. Fuck your feelings: Do what you must. Not what you feel like you must do. 2. Contract with yourself: when you have made a commitment to yourself, consider it a legally binding contract. 3. Do beat yourself up: I am not a fan of the “cut yourself some slack” tribe. My experience has been that if I hood myself to high standard and I beat myself up when I don’t attain it, I remember that beating so vividly that I don’t want to experience it again. So, I keep the promises I made to myself. 4. Catch yourself DOING the right thing: You are hard wired to see a crooked sigh post. Noticing when something is “off” is part of you. Noticing when something is right takes some training. So learn to train your brain to catch you doing the right thing. Set up a mechanism to reward yourself as you catch yourself. The brain will chase that reward over and over again. There are no zero-fault journeys. But there is always the discipline of consistency to overcome our natural human weaknesses. Be consistent.
