it's all show. the king has no power or persuasion here. it's like a nod to the past. nothing more.

It’s surprising how little the comment section knows. While the role of Governor General IS largely symbolic, it’s our Commander-In-Chief as the King’s representation in Canada. Technically, in the

Up until the 90s, we sang God Save the Queen (or King) in school. In the 70s, we sang Oh, Canada! and said the Lord's Prayer in the morning and God Save the Queen at the end of the day.

They are mostly symbolic. It would be the same if you go to Australia or New Zealand.

The Crown just another way of "the State". The monarchy is just the state personified. King Charlie is the King of Canada which a different legal "person" than the King of England.

You have to think of the Royals as symbolic figureheads. Canada is a colony, like Australia and New Zealand. we have very little interaction with them aside from visits. In the UK most -

I don't understand the comments saying the crown is symbolic? they don't interfere on a daily basis but the Commonwealth all sticks together? if anyone in the group gets invaded.. we help each other.

Its a similar system to countries that have a President as ceremonial head of state and PM as head of government. Canada has a King but the powers are limited by the constitution and powers are very limited

It is confusing but our relationship to the monarchy is largely symbolic and historical and the disconnect over time has grown.

The crown is a symbol of executive authority that is exercised by the King’s Privy Councillors aka federal Ministers. They are whoever has the confidence of the House of Commons.

It’s very hands off - constitutional monarchy - we make our own decisions etc. so yes King Charles is the king but the Gov General does all the signing. But I do love the monarchy - it’s just a fun thing.

Okay. We are a colony, therefore the monarchy is still at the top. There is a Governor General, which is the figure head appointed to be the monarch’s rep. But it is not an actionable position.
