There are petroglyphs, cliff dwellings, a massive ceremonial site, and one of the most unique hikes in New Mexico: Alcove House, perched 140 feet up a cliff, only accessible by climbing four wooden ladders. Need to know: • Located near Los Alamos, NM • $25 entrance fee or free with an America the Beautiful Pass • Free shuttle required late spring through fall • Main trail: Pueblo Loop Trail (1.2 mi, easy—ruins + cliff dwellings) • Alcove House Trail (adds 1 mi RT to Pueblo Loop—140 ft of ladders + epic views) • Falls Trail (3 mi RT—canyon hike ending at a seasonal waterfall) • Frey Trail (3 mi—switchbacks with sweeping canyon views) • Tsankawi Village Trail (1.6 mi loop—remote ruins + ladders; temporarily closed) ‼️Leave No Trace Reminder: These sacred sites are fragile. Stay on marked paths, avoid touching rock art and respect all posted closures.
