@ceemtaylor: Replying to @ravennightingale7 When it comes to drafting, there are no rules. If you like the idea, try it. If it doesn't work, there's your answer. my favorite thing after finishing a draft is going back to the beginning and tweaking the characters/beats to what I know they need to be, now that I know who the characters are at the end. satisfying

Love this, and I agree. Truly, there are no rules. Use the tips that serve you, disregard the ones that don’t.

📚 Delina Beck ✍️ :
I absolutely write out of order and then “quilt” the pieces together. I’ll write a particular scene and then picture a future scene and then go back and fill in the pieces.

some of the best movies of all time were literally filmed like this. many huge movies film the ending before the 2nd act because it helps actors get to the end.

hi ms cee! just started 1st round of revision my 1st draft. would you advice that i strictly focus on the language retouches (dialog, setting etc) or rather the story elements like plot & characters?

I have an unrelated question. In writing a sequel what is the best way to get key info from the first book, like world building, without too much repetion.

There is no rough draft for me. Too foggy for my process.

The best thing I ever did was start writing out of order but it’s not for everyone

I'm curious for your thoughts on pulling off a "stealth diptych" where book 2 isn't obviously connected to book 1 and they feel like standalones until the reveal that it's connected.

for me, i need to do things in a linear fashion. however sometimes i get ideas and need to write them out and insert when appropriate

I write a very thorough outline, then I hope around writing any scene that appeals to my mood at the time. It’s chaotic at first but so satisfying when the disparate chunks suddenly come together

this actually worked for me to develop the deeper story. the external plot came fairly easily and quickly.

I saw the story in order like a dream but in bits so I knew the start middle and end. Still I wrote a terrible 1st chapter, then proceeded to half ss it til chap 14... then went back to the first...
