Imane in Oran ❤️ Imane: "Khelif Imane, 23 years old, Algerian boxer in the 63 KG weight category, two-times African champion, fifth place in Tokyo Olympics, and vice-world champion recently in Turkey." Reporter: “How did your interest in sport begin?” Imane: “Frankly, I’ve never imagined myself in the boxing sport, I’ve always loved football. But I got lucky one day. I moved to the boxing hall which I liked and then I started practicing the sport. My coach, Mohamed Chaoua, who is my personal trainer has convinced me about this sport. He told me ‘you will become an Olympic champion inshallah’. It didn’t cross my mind what an Olympic champion was. And one day, I did participate in the Tokyo Olympics and that dream came true.” Reporter: “How did you prepare for the Mediterranean Games?” Imane: “After the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021, the preparations were ongoing. We had several training camps and international tournaments. The last one was a training camp in Turkey. In addition, the world championship as a competition is considered as a preparation for these Mediterranean Games. I can say that I am up to the task of these games.” Reporter: “What’s your objective from participating in the Mediterranean Games?” Imane: “The Mediterranean Games is a major event which we are honored that it’s taking place in our country. We are proud that Algeria is organizing this ceremony. As for the competition and as you know, boxing will last for several days. As for me, I have passed the first bout and still have two bouts remaining in the semifinal and final. Inshallah I will live up to the level to work for the better and to win the most precious medal, inshallah.” Reporter: “What are your fears regarding the Mediterranean Games?” Imane: “Any athlete would fear injuries during the combat or before a bout and not being able to fight in another bout. Also I fear bias from the judges which we should take into consideration because boxing is known for judges injustice. Inshallah the judges panel will be up to the mark and that I can win the most precious medal.” Reporter: “How do you rate the ambience in Oran?” Imane: “For me, Oran is my second city. It’s one of the western states that I know and I have a special audience in Oran. They welcomed us in a reception fit for champions once we entered the city for these Games. They stood by our side.
