I don’t remember doing a single lock down drill my entire schooling in Australia. I was a TA for a year and we did one. Sitting in that silence, all I could think about was how terrifying the very real threat of gun violence for American schools. Not only are you repeatedly traumatised, you’re told you don’t matter enough to make change. Violence might not be the answer for some, but for those at the top, I hope they feel just how violent decades of trauma, fear and rage can really be. I hope they’re forever looking over their shoulder, flinching at shadows and sounds, just as the children they failed to protect have done.

I was put in lockdown in 2nd due to columbine, I was sat in front of a tv at 9 to watch the twin towers be attacked in my math class cross cross apple sauce & it’s been down hill from there 😭 idk how they r shocked

I vividly remember when I was in high school we were sitting in the cafeteria. There was normal chatter going on, and then somebody dropped something on the ground and for a split second it actually sounded like gunshots. Everyone went dead silent trying to assess if all hell was about to break loose, and then once we realized there was no threat, we went back to our normal business. We all had to stop and fear momentarily, recognizing in our young minds, that it was very possible that could have been gunshots and feel relief that we were safe. Then just had to keep on keeping on.

I was in kindergarten post columbine, we used to play hide and seek with the principal, we would lay down in the dark like nap time and be quiet while the principal tried to break the door down(1/2)
