My husband and I carry $5 Walmart and $5 McDonald’s gift cards because we don’t carry cash and we just restock when we run out.

i have always had the mindset of if you're going to help, just help, and that's it. everything else after that will be up to the universe and how it'll be reciprocated.

Some tasks can be so huge and so intimidating that you don’t know where to start. When you’re standing at the base of a mountain looking up at a cloudy summit, it’s tempting to cool the whole thing off. Research proves that most people don’t do well with huge ill-defined projects, and when presented with a vast horizon yet to cross, a lot of people will say, ‘Screw it, I’m going for a drink’, which is why the #japanese philosophy of Kaizen is so important. It allows us to finish even the greatest of tasks. Kaizen is not some ancient arcane secret discovered buried within some lost monastic scrolls. It’s a #business practise popularised in the 20th century by the Toyota car company. It literally translates as ‘good change’, and it’s the practise of gradual continuous #improvement . It’s the #philosophy that says we can all better ourselves, but the best and most #sustainable way to do so is slowly and in small steps. For example, if you say ‘Today I’m going to tidy the house’, well, that’s intimidating, but if you say instead, ‘Today I’m going to tidy the bedroom’, well, that’s manageable. We live in an age of quick fixes and instant gratification, and Kaizen is neither. It’s slow, determined #improvements that can seem pointlessly small or insignificant when taken alone, but just as many drops will one day make an ocean, #kaizen can transform a life. If you change something every day, then every week will be better and when months turn to years, you’ll find that you’ve climbed the mountain.
