@adopeblackdoula: I’ve used IUDs twice for long-term birth control, and let me tell you—they come with a lot of questions. When I first considered getting one, I had to do a lot of digging, so let me save you some time and spill the tea about IUDs: 1️⃣ They're totally reversible. You can have your IUD removed anytime you want. 2️⃣ You can get pregnant as soon as a month after removing an IUD. If you’re trying for a baby, you don’t have to wait long! But if you don’t want to get pregnant, make sure you have another birth control method lined up. 3️⃣ Hormonal IUDs release a tiny bit of hormone to block sperm and might stop you from ovulating. Copper IUDs are hormone-free and work like sperm kryptonite—bye-bye, swimmers! 4️⃣ You don’t have to have kids or be on your period to get an IUD. It’s totally fine for people who haven’t given birth and can be placed while you’re on or off birth control. 5️⃣ Copper IUDs can also act as emergency contraception while doubling as long-term protection.
